Once in a while a talent comes along whose music is ageless and who instantly turns heads.... country singer songwriter Lance Friend is one of these artists who delivers his own honest, intelligent and unique style of Australian country music. Bursting onto the country music scene in 2004, with his first band ‘Friends in No Places’, Lance travelled across the country visiting radio stations self promoting his first cd ‘Hard to be a Man’.
The following years seen Lance endure some life changing experiences good and bad but his focus and hunger to produce a top quality album never waned. After much agonising, fine tuning and deliberations 2012 saw the release of his self funded and solo album titled "The Album". Working with one of Australia’s finest producers Brendan Radford, Lance’s music had finally come to life. With a cast of industry legend players including Lawrie Minson, Glenn Hannah, Brendan Radford, Michel Rose, Vaughn Jones, Chris Haigh and more this album was destined to stand out amongst some of the very best.
Now armed with some well penned songs and tales inspired by love, life and travels it was time to take it to the people. Lance’s commitment to his country, music and dedication to his fans has earned him the respect of his industry peers and he is now a seasoned performer on big stages all over event calendars. With many of his songs having achieved great success you can often hear this remarkable talent played across the airwaves on both National and International Country Radio. Lance has since sold thousands of copies of ‘The Album’ with his dynamic vocals and songs appealing to all ages and demographics.
Lance and his new band The Murky River with their unique Country Rock Grass sound has spent the last two years touring Queensland, NSW and the Northern Territory delivering energetic performances at a consistent pace. 2013 was such a successful year with his songs climbing Australian Country charts. Taking on new representation but remaining an independent artist Lance covered vast ground headlining festivals and events along the way. Captivating audiences at Tamworth Country Music Festival, Airlie Beach Music Festival, Julia Creek Dirt n Dust, The Brunette Downs Races, Anakie Gemfest, Widgee Country Music Muster and highlight of the year performing on Mainstage at The Gympie Country Music Muster.
After much interest and demand for quality entertainment in the Northern Territory, Lance and his band set out on ‘The Red Dirt Tour 2014’. Towns and communities big and small were treated to performances at various events. ‘Ditching the Drought’ where the skies opened up with much needed relief to welcome Lance and the Murky River at the Winton city concert was a highlight to be seen. They later visited Katherine, Jabiru, Gumbalanya, Darwin, Borroloola Show, King Ash Bay, Casuarina, Humpty Doo, Tennant Creek and Hayes Creek in the June/July months. Returning to Queensland they shared the bill with ‘Dragon’ at the Bowen Fishing Classic then on to headline CQ Bikes, Bulls, Buggies and Bands, had last drinks at the final Mud Bulls and Music later returning to the main stage Airlie Beach Music Festival and ended the year supporting the ‘Black Sorrows’.
After such success with his first album Lance now has his sights set on releasing his new album in 2015 with a swag of new songs to share. Bookings are now flooding in for another Red Dirt Tour and we are expecting to see bigger and better things ahead for Lance in his new endeavors with several tours expected to launch later this year.
